It’s that time of year again! Like a lot people, we mainly watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. With so many classics, like the 1984 Macintosh ad, buzzing around lately, it was difficult not to be overly critical of this year’s crop. But despite these expectations, we found a lot of great new ads that we can’t help watching over and over again! But, like always, this year did not go without it’s stinkers. So, without further ado, here are my personal top (and bottom) five Super Bowl ads for 2014:
1 Radio Shack – “The 80s Called…”
Being this self-aware was a risky move, but it works incredibly well! Way to go Radio Shack!
2 Budweiser – “Puppy Love”
It has dogs AND horses! What’s not to love?
3 Microsoft – “What is Technology?”
It’s both touching and inspiring without being over-the-top. Watch out Apple…
4 Hyundai Genesis – “Dad’s Sixth Sense”
Definitely the best car commercial last night. It wasn’t obnoxious and over-blown; just a sweet, father-son story.
5 CarMax – “Slow Clap”
A lot of people thought this was dumb, but I’ve seen it about 5 times and I’m still laughing! Slow claps never get old. Plus, there’s a Rudy cameo!
1 Ford – “Double”
It may be double the length, but I missed the part where it was double the awesome. James Franco + tiger + fireworks + flower petals = awesome? No.
2 Subway – “Fritos Chicken Enchilada”
I know Michael Phelps eats a lot, but I’m sure he wouldn’t eat THIS! “I love the crunch?” No. You don’t.
3 H&M – “David Beckham”
4 Beats Music – “Ellen Degeneres”
I love Ellen Degeneres as much as the next person, but I never cared to see her dancing with a bunch of poorly animated bears… creepy.
5 Volkswagon – “Wings”
The gimmick with the wings popping out got old really fast. Nice try!
